Democrats raffle Las Vegas date with Obama

The Democratic National Committee is raffling off three backstage passes to meet President Obama when he visits Las Vegas next week.

The prize winners, who will be drawn from online and text message entries on Saturday at DNC headquarters, may also receive round-trip air transportation and a one-night hotel stay in Las Vegas -- valued at approximately $1,200.

Winners are responsible for paying any local, state and federal taxes that may be owed. In its “Go Backstage with the President” disclaimers, the DNC lists the value of the backstage pass as $0 -- for tax purposes anyway.

Entries will be accepted through Friday for the event that will take place next Friday, Oct. 22.

There are a couple of ways to register for a chance to win. For a free shot at the prize, register online.

You can also register via cell phone by texting the keyword “BACKSTAGE” to 62262 during the promotion period. That will also get you on the DNC and Organizing for America's text-message alert list. To opt out you'll have to text “STOP” back to 62262.

The Democrats, of course, would prefer you send them an online contribution -- anywhere from $3 to $30,400 is suggested -- which will get you automatically entered into the sweepstakes.

For the locals, any winner who lives within 100 miles of Las Vegas can expect to get ground transportation to and from the event instead of a plane ride.
