Dining pick of the week: Lee’s Sandwiches
PICK OF THE WEEK:
LEE'S SANDWICHES
3989 Spring Mountain Road, 331-9999
The inventor of the sandwich is unknown, though the man who popularized it and gave his name to the dish was John Montagu, fourth Earl of Sandwich. He was fond of placing meat between two pieces of bread, and the rest is history. There are a minimum of 68 sandwiches at Lee's, and it's safe to say Montagu would be pleased. Asian sandwiches are on 10-inch baguettes and made with house pickle (daikon and carrot), onion, jalapeno, cilantro, house mayo, salt, pepper and soy sauce. The European, on baguette or croissant, has mayo, lettuce, tomato, cheese (American, Swiss, provolone) with pickle, pepperoncini, red onion and mustard on the side. Among the items to place on these beauties are pork roll, sardines, ham, turkey, almond tuna, veggie avocado, salami, sliced Chinese barbecue pork, roast beef and sliced cured pork. Enjoy with an Italian fruit soda (17 flavors), fresh-squeezed juice, gourmet coffee or fruit smoothie featuring the "make your own." There are more than 25 ice creams, including pistachio, vanilla chocolate chip, Crazy Coconut, Cookie Monster, cantaloupe, coffee and Rocky Road. Other desserts are almond or butter croissants, muffins and assorted Danish. Asian sandwiches start at $3.29 and European sandwiches at $5.29. Lee's is open 24/7.
