Don’t miss this column

Last Sunday's column about Harry Reid's attempt to bully the Las Vegas Review-Journal has taken on a life of its own. The story currently has elicited almost 4,000 comments from readers. And I personally am closing in on 2,000 e-mails. My Blackberry is starting to smoke. Since I make it a personal discipline to read all of the non-spam e-mail I get, I have my work cut out for me over the next day or two. But it is worth it to see people get energized.

Why are people energized?

There is certainly a partisan element to it. A lot of people around the nation just plain don't like Sen. Harry Reid.

But there's more to it. People seem to be energized by a newspaper doing what it should do, which is stand up for little guy against the powerful who would destroy others for their personal gain.

I'm sure this debate will carry on for the rest of the week. But I hope everyone who is excited about the Reid column will also take the time to read Glenn Cook's column on the Clark County School District's letter to elementary school kids.

I couldn't believe what I was reading.

You gotta ask yourself what the district is thinking by sending out such a letter to kids.
