The fruits of John Racener’s double-up victory 10 hands into the World Series of Poker’s Main Event didn’t last long.
The chip count at the break about an hour into play in the $10,000 buy-in No-limit Hold’em World Championship showed Quebec resident Jonathan Duhamel extending his original lead to 197.05 million in chips, compared to Racener’s 22.55 million in chips.
Racener, a Florida resident is now at a better than 8-to-1 disadvantage with Duhamel controlling nearly 90 percent of the chips in play.
Racener was down 11-to-1 in chips in the 10th hand when Duhamel put him all-in. Racener’s pocket queens held up as Duhamel was holding a king-four. The second king never showed up on the flop, turn or river and Racner doubled up to 36 million in chips.
But over time, Duhamel slowly whittled away Racener’s chip stack.
The blinds currently sit at $800,000 and $1.6 million, meaning every other hand Racener is forced to play 13 percent of his stack.
