Election Day turnout remains low in municipal primaries

As of 3 p.m. today, 9,483 people had voted in municipal primary elections in five Southern Nevada cities, according to the Clark County Election Department.

That included 3,555 Henderson voters, 3,107 in Las Vegas, 1,652 in North Las Vegas, 709 in Boulder City and 460 in Mesquite.

Adding today's votes to the two-week early voting period, the afternoon numbers put Henderson's total turnout for this election at just 9 percent, North Las Vegas' at 8 percent and Las Vegas' at 4 percent. Henderson and North Las Vegas have open mayoral seats contested by multiple candidates, the top two of which will go to a June general election based on today's results.

Meanwhile, 30 percent of active registered voters in Boulder City and 29 percent in Mesquite have gone to the polls thus far.

Polls remain open until 7 p.m. in all five municipalities.
