Ensign’s other Christmas present

Sen. John Ensign received an early Christmas present on Thursday, besides the news the Justice Department no longer is targeting him in a criminal probe.

Ensign and Sen. Harry Reid held their annual joint staff holiday party in the U.S. Capitol. Tradition is that they swap gag gifts.

This year, Reid presented Ensign with a gift-wrapped bottle of Rogaine, according to guests.

"This is to help you, John, prepare for getting older," Reid said to Ensign, 52, who is trademarked by silvery hair and who may have lost a few in the past year.

"It was totally Reid's idea, too, not from anyone on staff,"  said one guest. "Reid said he thought it was his best present ever" to Ensign.
