ENTERTAINMENT: Cirque to be filmed in 3-D

James Cameron is turning his 3-D cameras on Cirque du Soleil, executive-producing a film that will collectively promote the company's resident titles on the Strip.

The theatrical feature will be directed by Andrew Adamson, whose credits include “Shrek” and “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.”

Cirque du Soleil spokesman Lou D’Angeli confirmed the feature will film locally and highlight the Las Vegas titles, which he said is “a tremendous representation of the brand.” He did not know when filming will commence or when the finished product will be released.

A report earlier this week on Deadline.com said Adamson already is filming the fictional, connective material in his native New Zealand.

In a news release, "Avatar" director Cameron said, “Shooting with the Cirque du Soleil team has been one of the most enjoyable experiences of my professional life. For years I’ve been a fan, both of their celebration of human physical performance and for their wild imagination in the designs of characters, costumes, music and unparalleled theatrical staging.

"They’ve built a global brand, and it’s a unique opportunity for me, and my 3-D partner Vince Pace, to bring the Cirque du Soleil experience to a world wide audience through the magic of 3-D cinema. The images we’ve been shooting are stunning, and I know Andrew Adamson will weave them into a transporting, dreamlike narrative which will mesmerize audiences of all ages, around the world.”
