Entertainment: Manilow movie based here?

  A Daily Variety story says a planned movie based on Barry Manilow music will revolve around fans flocking to a concert at Mandalay Bay.
  It’s odd that a specific hotel arena has been named before a writer has been hired to finalize the plot for the romantic comedy, in which Manilow is supposed to perform as well as have his songs featured.
  The producers include Michael Stipe and Tom Hanks, with Manilow’s manager Garry Kief. The Variety report says Manilow was hooked “by the idea of making a character-driven romantic comedy with intersecting storylines involving Manilow fans who are all arriving in Las Vegas on a weekend where Manilow will headline at Mandalay Bay.
  “His Music will be heard throughout the movie. Manilow will also perform a song or two in the film.”
  Wonder how the Hilton — where Manilow performs now — or even Paris Las Vegas, where he is rumored to be headed, feel about Mandalay Bay as the central location?
