Executive amnesty is a testament to Obama’s lack of leadership skills

It is now widely reported that President Barack Obama will unilaterally change the nation’s immigration enforcement system next week by granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants already in the United States.
As has always been the case, there will be much argument about the specifics of whatever President Obama unveils. This is an unsettled hot-button issue politically, but it is also a huge humanitarian problem that somehow the United States must solve.
President George Bush also had a passion for solving the problem. But the difference between Bush and Obama is that Bush tried to do it the right way — by going through Congress. Obama is going to do it by executive order, which I am sure many will think is cute and good, but what it really says about the president is that he is an inept, cowardly leader.
Bush at least had the guts to stand up for what he believed and make his case before the public and Congress. Obama is going to debate it only within the echo chamber of the teacher’s lounge that is the White House, then make it happen via executive order.
The problem with that is obvious. What one president can do via executive order, another president can undo via executive order.
That unfairly puts millions of illegal immigrants through a tenuous and undignified process.
President Obama should present his case to Congress and use his powers of persuasion to get the proper government body to act.
Treat people with dignity, Mr. President. Not like political footballs.
