Extreme sport athlete moves to Rhodes Ranch

Coming to the United States from Croatia, Tomislav "Connan" Lorber has moved into the Rhodes Ranch master-planned community. Lorber is an extreme sport athlete, famous in Croatia, and he is hoping to make a name for himself here in the states.

According to his friend and manager, Gabriel Krstanovic Lee, Lorber is excited about his move to Las Vegas and the many opportunities our country has to offer.

"He is quite famous in Europe and he has been competing in extreme sports for years," Lee said. "We thought it would be great for his career to move him to Las Vegas to train and compete. Connan also is getting ready to challenge two current Guinness Book of World Records categories -- one for pulling more than 10 tons with his teeth and another for pulling more than 10 tons with his body. The current record for both of those categories is 10 tons and we feel pretty confident that he will have no problem shattering those records over the next year."

According to Lee, Lorber is motivated to break the Guinness Book of World Records in at least six different disciplines over the next two years. He will also be working on a couple of different strength exhibitions at local businesses.

Lorber, who stands 6 foot 8 inches and weighs 315 pounds, has started training in The R-Club recreation center at Rhodes Ranch.

"In Croatia, I trained in nature because we didn't have a facility like this nearby," Lorber said. "This center is perfect for my strength and endurance training, which is important during competitions. Rhodes Ranch is a really beautiful place and the people are so nice. I love it here."

Lorber holds the world record for pulling a 10-ton truck with his teeth and the record for arm wrestling in a 2000 competition in Croatia.

He also is able to hold two, running 500 ccm motorcycles with his arms and is able to keep a 1,300 ton car from moving while holding on to it.

Rhodes Homes opened the 35,000-square-foot recreation center in October 2005.

It houses an indoor workout facility with weights and cardiovascular equipment, a full-length basketball court, two racquetball/handball courts, and six billiards tables.

In addition to fitness amenities, the facility has social areas that feature three fireplaces along with couches, tables and chairs and boasts one of the largest outdoor water parks in the valley called the Fun Zone Aquatic Park.

Included in the Fun Zone is a 13,000-square-foot lagoon pool with wading areas, a 10,000-square-foot water park with three-speed slides, five kid slides, rope bridges, multiple squirt gun stations and a 1,000-gallon bucket that fills and tips over every five minutes.

It also includes a 25-meter lap pool, two eight-person spas, a 12-person group spa, four covered cabanas, one exterior-lighted basketball court, two sand volleyball court, four lighted tennis courts and a children's playground with activity structures.

Residents also have access to the par-72, signature Ted Robinson-designed, 18-hole golf course.

They also benefit from living in a guard-gated community with 24-hour roving security patrols, park-like atmosphere and the new clubhouse.

Rhodes Homes is selling homes in six neighborhoods at Rhodes Ranch.

They are The Collection, Palms Bay, Pacific Mist, The Majors, The Fairways and The Irons neighborhoods.

Homes range from 1,467 to 4,138 square feet. Prices begin in the mid-$200,000s.

To visit, take Interstate 215, the Las Vegas Beltway, to Durango Drive, then go south to Rhodes Ranch Parkway.

Sales offices are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
