F Street Closure: Another Westside Insult

Attorneys Matthew Callister and I-Che Lai are preparing a lawsuit that will focus on the inherent injustice with closing F Street at Bonanza Road along the edge of the mostly African-American Westside.

Historically, the neighborhood has been shoved aside while the rest of Southern Nevada has undergone an unprecedented boom.

The closure by the city of Las Vegas and Nevada Department of Transportation comes at a time city redevelopment plans call for an elaborate planned build out on the former Union Pacific Property. The F Street closure means – once again – that minority residents will be diverted.

It’s my understanding that longtime civil rights activist Gene Collins is all over this issue. Expect a vocal fight.

Watch for the lawsuit to be filed early next week. This once could reverberate nationally
