Final 14 players at WSOP Main Event have an international flair

The final 14 players still in contention at the World Series of Poker’s Main Event resemble a mini United Nations.

Chip leader Anton Makiievskyi is from Ukraine (32.295 million), Ireland’s Eoghan O'Dea is second (26.475), Pius Heinz of Germany is in third (24.935 million), and John Hewitt of Costa Rica is in fourth (19.760 million).

Five Americans are still in running for a seat at the final table of nine in the $10,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em World Championship. Other players are from Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Belize, South Africa and Canada.

Jonathan Duhamel of Canada won the 2010 World Series of Poker championship.

When the Main Event championship began, there were 85 nations represented among the 6,865 players. Non-U.S. players made up 33 percent of the total field. This is the largest percentage of international-based players in World Series of Poker history.
