For Sale: One smoking pile of worthless history
To no one’s great surprise, the smoldering heap of what remains of the Moulin Rouge is now up for sale.
Is this what they call a fire sale?
Although some local nostalgia buffs and historians will wring their hands about the tragic fate of the Moulin Rouge, clue the bluesy noir music here, the fact is it’s been lost for a long time. If the community – and I’m talking about the whole community, not just the black community – gave a damn about it, the Rouge would have been protected years ago.
Now it’s just one sale away from taking a one-way trip to the neon bone yard or the backyard of former Nevada Lt. Gov. Lonnie Hammargren. I cry at weddings and funerals and baseball games that go into extra innings, but I’ve shed my last tear for this restoration project that never was.
