Fore! LV Country Clubbers go to war
A glimpse over the back fence at the Las Vegas Country Club reveals it’s anything but a happy family these days as longtime members litigate the current Board of Directors over millions of dollars in changes to its famous golf course.
Former LVCC president and attorney Paul Schofield is suing the board on behalf of fellow former board member Bruce Ashworth and 11 other members, whose memberships have been suspended after they refused to continue to pay for golf privileges they weren’t receiving.
So far, Schofield has declined to return a phone call.
But I have obtained a letter dated Aug. 28 to members from current LVCC president Donald D. Pitchford. In it, Pitchford argues that the suspended members simply refused to pay their “financial obligations to which we all agreed. In August, the balance owed by all of the suspended members was over $500,000. That means that each of us who pay our obligations would EACH need to pay personally about $900 to make up for their unpaid balances from which they want to default and which grow larger each month. Mr. Schofield contends our suspension policies, which he supported and enforced while Club President, are not ‘fair and reasonable.’ It is also interesting that Mr. Ashworth contends policies he voted for while a Member of the Board of Directors are now unacceptable.”
It’s also true that no member with whom I’ve discussed this issue is satisfied with all the expense and delays in returning the LVCC to its former idyllic appearance.
