Former Bear Stearns executive takes over chip lead

Ex-Bear Stearns executive Steven Begleiter took over the World Series of Poker’s main event chip lead just before the 5 p.m. break.

Begleiter busted out Ian Tavelli of Santa Rosa, Calif., taking down a pot worth more than 15 million in tournament chips.

Begleiter’s pocket kings held up to Tavelli’s pocket nines.

Tavelli finished in 17th place, while Begleiter now has almost 27.9 million in chips.

Darvin Moon is second with 24.6 million in chips.

Fifteen players remain in the $10,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em world championship. Players will compete down to the final table of nine.
