Four ‘must reads’ on health care ‘reform’
May I recommend four quick resources this morning for those seriously trying to get smarter on the health care "reform" debate.
Is abortion part of the deal?
Maybe. Here's a pretty good analysis of where that issue stands. The bottom line: If the liberal Congress does not specifically prohibit abortions, but let the issue be decided by Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius and the abortion friendly Obama Administration, you can bank on abortion being part of the "reform", thereby making this bill neither "health care" nor "reform".
Which is worse -- government or insurance companies?
Well, the latest Rasmussen poll says that Americans fear the federal government more than private insurance companies. And, President Obama is taking a big, big hit in his popularity over his health care "reform". For Democrats, this is extremely bad news. If public opinion continues to move against Democrats at this pace, you can bet that office holders on the edge will either flip on President Obama's efforts, or try like hell to postpone health care debate past the 2010 elections.
Who's your thug?
Senior citizen and father of a disabled child, Mike Sola, has become a household figure for venting at Rep. John D. Dingell, D-Michigan. Fox News caught up to him and asked him a few questions. It's a worthwhile interview. First, he reveals that after he confronted Rep. Dingell, he received threats from what I suppose we are to conclude were pro-Obama thugs. Wonder if we'll hear more about that? Do you think Rep. Nancy Pelosi will come to the aide of Mike Sola and his family?
Don't hold your breath.
OK, OK. I know this is a Fox News interview and some readers will discount it because of that. But it illustrates a couple of things: First, this guy looks like a normal, work-a-day guy. Angry to be sure, but not a professional organizer. Second, and perhaps more importantly, it shows how a lack of information surrounding this important American debate has generated more heat than light. And that's a good set up for my last recommended morning read.
Obama mishandling health-care debate; Pelosi must go
And finally, if you read nothing else this morning, spend a little time with Salon.com's Camille Pagalia's piece on how President Obama (from her liberal perspective) is screwing up the debate. Says she:
"... I must confess my dismay bordering on horror at the amateurism of the White House apparatus for domestic policy. When will heads start to roll? ... Case in point: the administration's grotesque mishandling of health care reform ... who would have thought that the sober, deliberative Barack Obama would have nothing to propose but vague and slippery promises -- or that he would so easily cede the leadership clout of the executive branch to a chaotic, rapacious, solipsistic Congress? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whom I used to admire for her smooth aplomb under pressure, has clearly gone off the deep end with her bizarre rants about legitimate town-hall protests by American citizens. She is doing grievous damage to the party and should immediately step down."
Yikes. Grotesque mishandling? Pelosi must step down?
When a politician gets hammered like this from friends, you know the whole policy is in trouble.
