Free bus rides available valleywide for New Year’s Eve

New Year’s revelers who don’t like the idea of getting behind the wheel while out celebrating 2011 can catch a free bus ride from 6 p.m. New Year’s Eve until 9 a.m. New Year’s Day along any Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada transit route.

On a related note, the commission said it will operate its transit system on holiday schedules on Friday for Christmas Eve, Saturday for Christmas Day and then again on Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day. On Friday, transit routes will operate on a Saturday schedule, and routes will operate on a Sunday schedule on Saturday and Jan. 1.

The commission will operate on a normal schedule on Dec. 31, but said some routes are expected to be detoured due to New Year’s Eve festivities and the closure of the Las Vegas Strip to vehicular traffic. Detour information and holiday schedules for all RTC routes are available at rtcsnv.com or in the RTC’s Transit Guide.

For more information, call the commission’s customer service line at 228-7433.
