Friendly Ford joins with police to present comedy show

The Metropolitan Police Department is joining with Friendly Ford to present “Healing through Laughter: Comedy in the 106,” a free event starring comedian George Wallace, at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Dallas Ballroom at Texas Station.

Las Vegas police officers have been working on a series of events that address crime, safety and quality of life. The series’ focus is on an area traditionally called “The West Side,” primarily those living in the 89106 zip code.

Among the events have been “Santa in the 106,” which brought a nontraditional Santa and Mrs. Claus to children in the area, and a visit with NFL running back and Las Vegas native Demarco Murray, an academic All-American, who visited schoolchildren and spoke of the need to apply themselves in school.

Also, officers from the 89106/ Bolden Area Command took many 8- and 9-year-old children for their first haircuts, and provided them with hygiene supplies and instruction.

“Healing through Laughter” is the program’s largest event to date. Besides Wallace, the event features special guest comedian Symmie Mitchell. Music will be provided by DJ Thump and the show will be hosted by Mike P.

Doors will open at 5 p.m.; for more information, call 702-730-2458.
