Gage to take an Alford plea?

Attorney Noel Gage is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court at 2 p.m. today to accept a plea in the latest development in the federal government’s investigation of collusion between local doctors and personal injury lawyers.

No official word is being released until the hearing, but here’s what I’m hearing: Gage will accept an Alford Plea, a legal term which will enable him to acknowledge the government had the goods to convict him without technically admitting guilt. It’s the kind of legal hair-splitting good defense attorneys and prosecutors sometimes resort to.

We’ll see at 2 p.m.
