Gibbons gets Tea-rific support

Anger is Brewing, a Nevada-based group affiliated with the conservative Tea Party movement, says its members support incumbent Gov. Jim Gibbons for re-election.

On Thursday Gibbons announced the support, saying the group's "beliefs align with my own in keeping taxes low, being responsible to our taxpaying citizens, keeping government off our backs and open to all Nevadans.”

The endorsement was based on a survey of people on the e-mail list of Anger is Brewing, as well as informal polls of supporters of the group.

Gibbons is facing an uphill battle to earn a second term in office. Former federal judge Brian Sandoval has large leads in opinion polls among likely Republican voters and has considerably more money for campaigning. Gibbons re-election bid has been troubled from the start, with the incumbent's campaign weighed down by a series of allegations he was unfaithful to his estranged wife, Dawn Gibbons, and political gaffes that have soured members of his own party against him.
