Gibbons receives tax bill
Gov. Jim Gibbons has received the tax bill passed by the Legislature, saying he intends to veto it but needs to look it over first.
Immediately after the Assembly gave the bill final legislative approval, a legislative staffer walked it across the courtyard between the legislative building and the Capitol, trailed by a pack of reporters, photographers and television cameras.
Gibbons emerged from his office to receive the bill in the reception area at about 4:30 p.m. “I want to thank the Legislature for doing their job,” he said.
“A billion-dollar tax increase in a recession is the worst thing we can do for the American and the Nevada people, and most of all for the hard-working families of this state,” he said. “I intend to veto this bill.”
Gibbons has five days to issue his veto, not counting Sunday. He wouldn’t say when he plans to do so.
