Gibbons to call special session
Gov. Jim Gibbons says he will make a widely anticipated decision to call a special session of the legislature. He didn't give a date.
The state is facing a budget gap of as much as $450 million and, although some say it could be closed without a special session, Gibbons says one is in order.
His critics say such a session is a political stunt to generate momentum for his flagging re-election campaign.
In a written statement Gibbons blamed the state's problems on "the Democrat-controlled" legislature.
"I hope Democrat legislators are prepared to work with me to solve the economic problems facing our state because I firmly believe our citizens are sick and tired of legislators and other politicians ignoring their needs," Gibbons said in a written statement.
The governor says the results of an Economic Forum meeting tomorrow "will play a critical role in determining the need for a special legislative session and what the content of that session will include."
