Gillespie snuffs out contract question

Sheriff Doug Gillespie on Thursday shot down speculation that future Metro employee agreements might change the pay scales of corrections officers and street cops.

Sources inside Metro raised the issue with me recently and pointed to other departments in which corrections officers, who work at the detention center, are paid at a substantially lower rate than their equally trained counterparts in the black-and-whites.

Gillespie said he knows of no conversations inside the Police Protective Association, the labor representative for cops and corrections officers.

“I’m not aware of any discussions or proposals,” Gillespie said in a phone interview before he returned from a law enforcement memorial gathering in Carson City.
