Golf courses set low tour fees
May 2, 2009 - 9:00 pm
Seven Summerlin golf courses are joining to create a 12-week Summerlin Golf Tour that will allow Clark County golfers with a USGA handicap the opportunity to play premier golf courses throughout the master-planned community for only $29 each.
This special event fee includes both green and cart fees as well as prize money.
The Summerlin Golf Tour will rotate throughout the seven courses each Wednesday afternoon this summer with the first event scheduled May 27 at Red Rock Country Club -- The Arroyo Course.
A $29 registration fee is required to join the Summerlin Golf Tour and must be paid in person at any participating golf course, which includes Bear's Best Las Vegas, TPC Las Vegas, Red Rock Country Club -- Arroyo Course and Mountain Course, -- Siena, Palm Valley and Highland Falls golf clubs.
Registration deadline is May 15 and play is limited to the first 100 players who sign up each week. The format for weekly Wednesday play is shotgun with start times scheduled between 3 and 4 p.m.
Those who play 10 rounds throughout the summer qualify for the Grand Finale competition Aug. 24 at Red Rock Country Club -- The Mountain Course.
Members of the Summerlin Golf Tour will also receive a 10 percent discount on posted golf rates on any day throughout the summer months.
"This is a great opportunity for local golf enthusiasts to enjoy access to seven premier courses that rank as some of the best in the valley for a fraction of what they would normally pay," said Jim Stanfill, general manager for Bear's Best Las Vegas. "The Summerlin Golf Tour is a great way to give back to local golfers. The courses are a mix of daily fee, semi-private and private facilities, so this kind of access is unprecedented. We expect interest and participation to be high."
TPC Las Vegas is an 18-hole, daily fee, championship course designed by golf course architect Bobby Weed with Raymond Floyd as player consultant. The par-71 course, 7,063-yard course opened in The Canyons village in 1996.
Bear's Best Las Vegas, located in The Ridges village, opened in 2002 and is one of the first Bear's Best courses developed worldwide. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, Bear's Best Las Vegas features replications of signature holes from Nicklaus courses throughout the western United States and Mexico. The 18-hole daily fee course is designed to accommodate corporate outings of all sizes. The course is a joint venture of ClubCorp and Golden Bear, International.
Red Rock County Club is home to two 18-hole signature courses designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer. The private Mountain Course is a 6,965-yard, par-72 championship private course while the Arroyo Course is a 6,857-yard, par-72 championship daily fee course.
Siena Golf Club, located in the age-qualified village of Siena, is an executive course designed by Brian Curley-Lee Schmidt. The 18-hole, 6,843-yard, par-72, semi-private course opened in 2000.
Three 18-hole, semi-private courses are located in Sun City Summerlin, the community's first age-qualified community. They include Highland Falls Golf Club, Palm Valley Golf Club and Eagle Crest Golf Club.
