‘Good People’ characters endure panic, terror
“Good People” is one of those crime novels that makes you feel the agony of the terrible decisions made by the main characters, in this case a believable couple who simply want to become parents.
Author Marcus Sakey takes his readers down their winding road of deceit in which each cover-up and lie leads to terrible consequences.
Tom and Anna Reed have paid dearly for four in vitro fertilization attempts and can’t afford a fifth. When they find hidden money after their mysterious tenant dies, Anna pressures Tom into keeping the $400,000 windfall and using it to realize their dream of parenthood.
But the mysterious loot comes with a horrible price. The tenant was involved in a robbery attempt involving a celebrity and his drug dealers. The robbery is nearly botched, and the tenant double crosses his accomplices and steals the money.
The Reeds are pursued by two groups of bad guys and a suspicious cop. Survival instincts take over as the Reeds try to stay alive.
Sakey, who also authored “At the City’s Edge” and “The Blade Itself,” is becoming a master of fiction in which good people endure a nightmare of panic and terror.
