Goodman talks about governor’s race — again
Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman may not have committed to running for governor next year, but he has a high opinion of the job he'd do if he did get elected.
"I’ll work harder, if I’m governor, than anybody else who ever was governor," he said today at his weekly news conference. "I’ll care more about the state than anybody who ever was governor. I would do the best job that is humanly possible."
Goodman reiterated that he'd like to run as a nonpartisan candidate, even though "it's very difficult, if not impossible, to win" a governor's race that way.
And he insisted he's still on the fence about entering the race.
"I'm trying to figure out what makes a good governor. I'm trying to figure out whether I fit that mold," he said.
"Anybody who says they want to be governor — there’s got to be a screw loose. Who wants to be governor at a time that the state ... is first place in everything that’s bad and last place in everything that’s good, and no money to fix it? You’ve got to be a little bonkers to say, 'I want to be governor.' "
So he won't.
"I’m not going to say, 'I want to be governor,' " he said. "But I don’t know whether anybody could do the job better than I could."
