GOP spends $469,000 on ads to defeat Senate hopeful Cortez Masto

The National Republican Senatorial Committee on Wednesday reported new expenditures of $469,257.56 in media ads opposing Democratic candidate Catherine Cortez Masto in Nevada’s U.S. Senate race.

The committee’s disclosure was made in filings with the Federal Election Commission and the expenditures were made in early August. They’ll cover television and online digital ads in English and Spanish that will run in the weeks ahead.

The group’s total spending on the Nevada Senate race is $938,442.62 so far on media efforts opposing Cortez Masto. The rest of the spending was reported last week to the FEC and started in late July.

Cortez Masto faces Republican U.S. Rep. Joe Heck in the U.S. Senate race. The open Senate race is one that Republicans hope to turn red. Its incumbent, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., is retiring when his term ends.
