Gov. Montandon? Hard core local Republicans say yes

In a completely unscientific poll of a partisan audience, local Republicans say they prefer longshot candidate Mike Montandon over frontrunner Brian Sandoval and incumbent Gov. Jim Gibbons. While unscientific, it suggests Sandoval may have some work to do winning over the base.

The survey was taken at a Clark County Republican Party meeting last night. It showed former North Las Vegas Mayor Mike Montandon, the favorite of just 7 percent of voters in a scientific, statewide survey by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research, was the choice of 34 percent of Republicans who attended the party meeting at The Orleans.

The Clark County Republican Party is the largest county-level party organization in Nevada.

Party officials distributed the survey results after Tuesday's meeting, in which members also elected new party officials.

The governor survey results:

Mike Montandon – 34%
Jim Gibbons – 29%
Brian Sandoval – 26%
Undecided – 11%

The board member election results:

·       Chairman – Bob Ruckman
·       Secretary – Michelle Ketrow
·       Treasurer – Eddie Facey
·       Executive Board Zone A – William D. Hancock
·       Executive Board Zone C – Sally Minster and Woody Stroupe
·       Executive Board Zone E – Samantha Porter
·       Executive Board Zone F – Diana Orrock
