Gov. Palin’s Down Syndrome choice brings abortion back as key presidential issue
Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska was tapped this morning to be the VP running-mate for Sen. John McCain. Brilliant move? Or not?
We'll no doubt get a better fix on that over the next week or so. From a pure tactical standpoint, McCain needed to do something out of the box. This was certainly it.
For now, the piece of her background that sticks with me is that she is the mother of five, the last of which was born with Down Syndrome. I have only admiration for that choice.
This Sunday in the Review-Journal, by coincidence, I am writing about Sen. Barack Obama's position on abortion. In light of Gov. Palin's choices, you can bet that abortion is going to get back front and center in this campaign. And, you can also bet that Sen. Barack Obama is not going to like that. Be sure to catch my column this Sunday in the Review-Journal.
