Government is just forcing you to understand … understand?

Jeez, it's controversial enough that NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg wants to ban big sugary drinks, raising the hackles of anyone who bridles at the weirdo do-gooders in government, but he made things a lot worse for himself when he said — and this will be the quote of the controversy — "We're not taking away anybody's right to do things. We're simply forcing you to understand ..."

Now I know that his quote is cut a bit and I suspect that this wasn't really what he wanted to convey. But he did it. And it's going to resonate on this news cycle.

You can see the Bloomberg misstep here.

P.S.: It's going to be well over 100 degrees in Las Vegas on Friday. Hope my local government in Las Vegas doesn't follow Bloomberg's lead. Come to think about it, that would also be bad for those 48-ounce margaritas tourists carry around the Strip.
