Habitat for Humanity announces promotions
Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas has promoted Roger Cooper to the post of project manager and Chet Yarbrough to director of land development.
As project manager, Cooper will be involved in managing all construction activities, including budgeting, scheduling, subcontractor oversight and site management.
He joined Habitat in Las Vegas two years ago as a site supervisor working with teams of volunteer builders.
Yarbrough's new post as director of land development will make him responsible for land acquisition, planning, entitlement and permitting. He joined Habitat three years ago as a project manager.
Habitat's Las Vegas chapter was established in 1991 and has completed 62 houses to date.
The international organization, which was founded in rural Georgia four decades ago, builds what it describes as "simple, decent" single-family homes, typically one-story dwellings with two or three bedrooms.
Using donations of land, materials and labor to hold down costs, Habitat for Humanity houses are sold at below-market prices to families that qualify based on financial need, a history of steady employment and a willingness to pick up a hammer and put in "sweat equity" constructing their home alongside volunteers.
Recipients of Habitat houses make as much of a down payment as their finances will allow and receive a zero-interest loan from Habitat. The size of their monthly payment is set according to the family's income.
