Harry Reid the disappointment
For those of you who don't know U.S. Sen. Harry Reid and might be tempted to entertain the idea that he's a good senator/human being, allow me to point you to a piece written by a former Nevadan who knows him very well.
It's a take down of Reid and, I think, the piece expresses the thinking of many Nevadans who once admired Reid in the early days, but have watched him become a ruthless, amoral politician willing to step on anybody to advance himself.
Here's the nut graph from Francis J. Beckwith's piece in "The Catholic Thing." Beckwith is a professor of philosophy at Baylor.
"Unfortunately, as I have come to learn over the years, this type of activity on the part of Reid and his lieutenants is more common than I could have ever imagined. What started as a real admiration for a man who had been the student, friend, and political compatriot of one of my heroes, Mike O’Callaghan, has been transformed into sad disappointment."
You can read it all here. It is brutal.
