Harry’s only chance — sling the mud

Dick Morris, who was in Las Vegas this week, opines in his column about Sen. Harry Reid's "bait and switch" tactic with the public option on the health care "reform" bill. It's worth the read.
The Complete Las Vegan had a chance to talk with Morris in a small-group setting while he was in Las Vegas this week. His take on Reid's chances of re-election is that no matter what Harry does, or doesn't do, inside the Beltway, his only chance of winning re-election is to demolish whoever emerges from the Republican primary.
Nevada's primary is in June. So, if Morris is right (and I think he is), the battle for Reid's political life will take place in a furious 60 days of mudslinging. By August, he will either have been able to knock out the challenger, or he won't. He's not going to be able to convince the "middle" voters that he's done a great job, or that someone else might have done worse. He can only convince people that he's better than his no good dirty rotten opponent.
It's a slim chance, but his only chance.
So, whoever Republicans choose in June, standby for an onslaught of political mud. If it sticks, Harry wins a fifth term. If it doesn't, turn out the lights on the Reid dynasty, the party's over.
