Hauck says missing bowl also means missing practices

UNLV was officially eliminated from bowl consideration with Saturday's 48-6 loss to Texas Christian, though the Rebels' chances of making the postseason were highly remote anyway.

But not making a bowl, even if expected, has a negative impact.

"Not getting the extra practice time you get with bowl preparation isn't good," Rebels coach Bobby Hauck said this morning. "We're going to miss out on those practices, so we need to extend our competitive periods in practice to work those in."

UNLV (1-7, 1-3 Mountain West Conference) plays at Brigham Young (3-5, 2-2) at 11 a.m. PDT Saturday. Though the Cougars are known for their quarterbacks, Hauck said he also was concerned with defending a BYU running game that averages 142.9 yards per game. The Rebels allow a 221.2-yard average.

"We better stop the run if we're going to have a chance this weekend," Hauck said.
