Heck signals vote to repeal health reform law
Rep. Joe Heck, D-Nev., this morning announced he will vote to repeal the health care reform law, saying in a U.S. House speech "there is more wrong with this bill than is right."
In previous comments, Heck had generally been critical of the landmark law although he would stop short of announcing whether he would vote to scrap it outright.
He said there were things about health reform worth keeping, such as allowing dependent children to remain on their parents' policies until they turn 26 and requiring that insurance companies don't deny coverage to someone with a pre-existing condition. But he opposed the idea of requiring people to buy health insurance or pay a fine.
Now that Republicans are putting in place a plan for hearings to craft a replacement bill along GOP free market principles, Heck delivered his most direct remarks in favor of repealing the one in place.
Among the other Nevada House members, Republican Rep. Dean Heller has said he will vote for repeal. Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley has said she will vote against repeal. Both were expected to take part in the debate before the vote.
