LIBRARIES TO CLOSE ON MONDAYS
In order to meet budget shortfalls, Henderson Libraries plans to close all branches on Mondays starting in October. The libraries, which already are closed on Sundays, are expected to stay open an additional hour on Fridays and Saturdays.

Olympic gold medalist to host free soccer clinic for boys and girls
Natasha Kai, a 2008 Olympic gold medalist, plans to host a free soccer clinic at 6:30 p.m. today at New Silver Bowl Park, 6800 E. Russell Road. The clinic is open to boys and girls 4 to 12. For more information, visit nvalliancesoccer.org.
Registration under way
for basketball league
The Henderson National Junior Basketball League is accepting registration for league play, which is scheduled to begin in mid-September. Boys and girls in kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to participate. Several divisions are available based on age and competitiveness.
Cost is $100 per player and includes a uniform. For teams, the cost is $500, plus $1,000 for uniforms. Deadline for placing team uniform orders is Saturday.

FIESTA HENDERSON reopens bingo room
The Fiesta Henderson, 777 W. Lake Mead Parkway, celebrated the grand reopening of its renovated bingo room Aug. 17. Improvements include new and modern carpet, refinished wall coverings, upgraded chairs and new tables. For more information, call 558-7000.
HENDERSON MAKES RANKING
ON CVENT LISTING
The city of Henderson announced Aug. 9 that it was ranked 39th on Cvent's list of top 50 cities for meetings and events in the United States. Cvent is a marketplace for group meetings businesses.
Cvent developed its rankings based on meeting and event booking activity in the Cvent Supplier Network. About 1,000 cities were evaluated, and activity was tracked from July 2011 to June .

FIREFIGHTERS DONATE TO HOPELINK
Henderson Professional Fire Fighters and Henderson Firefighters Benevolent Association donated $500 to HopeLink of Southern Nevada. The money is expected to go to the organization's Back 2 School drive to provide clothing and school supplies for children in need.
Learn about miracles during event
at Henderson Convention Center
Joan Hunter Ministries is planning to present "Miracles Happen" Thursday through Saturday at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water St. The event teaches people to have breakthroughs in the mind, body, soul and finances.

WINDER FARMs OPENS FARMERS MARKET
Winder Farms is scheduled to launch a farmers market through Oct. 26 at the Galleria at Sunset mall, 1300 W. Sunset Road. The market is slated to be open from 4 to 8 p.m. Fridays in the parking lot.
Items such as produce, meats, salads, juices, smoothies and more are expected to be available from multiple local vendors.

The Justin Timberlake Shiners Hospitals for Children Open announced a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas.
The partnership kicked off with a golf clinic with the First Tee of Southern Nevada at Lied Memorial Boys & Girls Club, 2850 S. Lindell Road.
More than 200 members from the Boys & Girls Clubs are expected to participate in the NV Energy Youth Clinic with the First Tee of Southern Nevada at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at TPC Summerlin, 1700 Village Circle Drive.

for parks and recreation fall classes
Registration for the city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department's fall classes, programs, events and activities is under way. Residents can register online, by mail or at a city of Henderson self-serve kiosk at City Hall, 240 S. Water St.; Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road; or Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway.
Residents also can register in person at any recreation center or indoor pool.

CLASS to train residents
ON EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
The city of Henderson Office of Emergency Management is scheduled to host a training class for the Community Emergency Response Team from 6 to 9 p.m. starting in September at the Henderson Training Center, 401 Parkson Road.
Participants are expected to learn how to be better prepared in emergency situations. Classes are free and will be offered on a Monday or a Wednesday for six weeks. Classes are set to begin Sept. 10 and 12.

Gibson LIBRARY OFFERS DRIVE-THROUGH SERVICE to pick up reserved items
The Gibson Library, 100 W. Lake Mead Parkway, is offering a drive-through window for patrons to use.
As part of a beat-the-heat technique, the library allows customers to reserve movies, books and music online at www.mypubliclibrary.org and pick the items up from the library between 9:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. without leaving their car.
