HENDERSON RANKED AS A TOP CITY TO LIVE

The city of Henderson was named No. 66 in Money magazine's 100 best cities in which to live. Top cities had a population between 50,000 and 300,000. Money looked at job opportunities, great schools, low income, quality health care, plenty to do and a sense of community.

MASTER GARDENERS PROGRAM OFFERING FREE CLASSES at Acacia Park

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners program, 4600 Horse Drive, Las Vegas, is offering a series of free classes at Acacia Park, 50 Casa del Fuego, in conjunction with the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. Classes will be taught by Master Gardener instructors and start at 9 a.m. The lineup includes:

n Saturday: Growing cool season vegetables in the Las Vegas Valley

n Sept. 22: Information on fruit trees

n Sept. 29: Growing an using herbs

n Oct. 13: Safe and sound insect control

Temple to host Candidate's Night

Midbar Kodesh Temple, 1940 Paseo Verde Parkway, is planning to host a Candidate's Night at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 23.

"Face To Face" political pundit Jon Ralston is scheduled to be the guest moderator for the question-and-answer session for candidates running for Senate, Congress, state Senate and Assembly, County Commission and school board in the Henderson area. Guests also will be able to meet the candidates.

Councilman John MARZ
to HOST CONNECTIONs MEETING

Henderson City Councilman John Marz is slated to host his first Neighborhood Connections meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive.

Marz is expected to give updates about Ward 3 and the city. Mayor Andy Hafen and other city officials are expected to attend to answer questions from residents. For more information, call 267-2085.

Henderson plans to host
senior table tennis tournament

The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department plans to host its seventh annual Senior Warm-up Open Table Tennis Tournament from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 3-4 at the Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St. Participation is open to players 45 or older.

Entry is $15 per player, per event. Entry packets and online registration are available at cityofhenderson.com/parks (activity code 624106-48 for singles, 624106-49 for doubles and 624106-50 for mixed doubles) or in person by Oct. 1 at the Valley View Recreation Center. Entries may be accepted after Oct. 1 pending space availability. Registration will not be accepted at the event.

regional TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION
SEEKS INPUT ON 20-YEAR PLAN

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is seeking public input on the region's transportation priorities as it prepares its 20-year Regional Transportation Plan.

The 2013-35 RTP is a comprehensive, long-range plan for the transportation system in Southern Nevada that is required by the federal government. Currently, the transportation commission is asking the public for initial feedback to a survey regarding various planning priorities.

The RTP survey is available at rtcsnv.com. Residents can also obtain the survey by emailing stidhama@rtcsnv.com or calling 676-1606. Surveys are also available at the transportation commission's Administrative Office, 600 S. Grand Central Parkway or the Bonneville Transit Center, 101 E. Bonneville Ave.

Responses will be accepted through 4 p.m. Thursday.

WINDER FARMs OPENS FARMERS MARKET

Winder Farms is scheduled to present a farmers market through Oct. 26 at the Galleria at Sunset mall, 1300 W. Sunset Road.

The market is slated to be open from 4 to 8 p.m. Fridays in the parking lot. Items such as produce, meats, salads, juices, smoothies and more are expected to be available from multiple local vendors.

TO BENEFIT CHILDREN

The Justin Timberlake Shiners Hospitals for Children Open announced a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas.

The partnership kicked off with a golf clinic with the First Tee of Southern Nevada at Lied Memorial Boys & Girls Club, 2850 S. Lindell Road.

More than 200 members from the Boys & Girls Clubs are expected to participate in the NV Energy Youth Clinic with the First Tee of Southern Nevada at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at TPC Summerlin, 1700 Village Circle Drive.

The city of Henderson has begun live streaming of City Council meetings.

Meetings are at 7 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of the month. Before watching , residents can also view the council agenda and supporting documents. The stream is available at cityofhenderson.com.
