Registration under way for Foothill High School basketball camp

Foothill High School, 800 College Drive, has a summer basketball camp for boys and girls scheduled for June 11-13. The camp is open to students entering the third through ninth grades.

BUSINESS WINS CREATIVE AWARD

Trosper Communications LLC received the Gold Hermes Creative Award on May 3.

The acknowledgement was given to Trosper Communications for its creative design work on a brochure it did for its client, TRONOX LLC.

Hermes Creative Awards is an international competition for creative professionals involved in concept, writing and design of traditional media materials.

Heck set to speak at luncheon

U.S. Rep. Joe Heck, R-Nev., is scheduled to address the Southern Hills Republican Women and guests at 11:30 a.m. today at Buckman's, 2600 Hampton Road. Luncheon cost is $22.

EASTER SEALS to OFFER FREE DEVELOPMENTAL SCREENINGS

Easter Seals Nevada is partnering with CVS Pharmacy to offer free developmental screenings from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday for parents and caregivers of young children in select CVS locations.

Locations include:

n CVS Store No. 8795, 2662 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway

n CVS Store No. 5942, 7285 S. Durango Drive

This 20-minute screening tool is free online through support from the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust in collaboration with Easter Seals Nevada's Make the First Five Count initiative for the early detection and treatment of developmental delays in children birth to 5 years old.

Golf tournament to help kids with heart conditions

The fourth annual We "Heart" Maggie Golf Tournament has been scheduled for Saturday at the Black Mountain Golf & Country Club, 500 S. Greenway Road. The event will benefit the Children's Heart Foundation, a Nevada-based nonprofit that offers support to children living in Nevada who have heart conditions.

Golfer registration begins at 9 a.m. The tournament will be a scramble format with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. There will be family activities from 2 to 3:45 p.m., with the banquet and awards ceremony at 4 p.m.

Golf registration and meal is $125. People who cannot attend can register as a Virtual Golfer for $50.

The tournament will be hosted by CHF board members John and Mollie Stewart in memory of their daughter and heart baby, Marguerite Anne Stewart, who died in July 2008.

FREE CLASS ON POWERPOINT to be OFFERED AT Green Valley LIBRARY

Henderson Libraries is scheduled to host a class on Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway.

The 90-minute class is planned to teach the basics of the program. The class is free.

HENDERSON OFFERS KIDS NIGHT OUT

The city of Henderson is scheduled to host a Kids Night Out from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road.

The event is open to children ages 6 to 12 and costs $5 per child.

YOUTH GROUP plans SWAP MEET and car wash

The youth group of Green Valley Presbyterian Church is slated to have a swap meet and car wash from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church, 1798 Wigwam Parkway.

For people interested in setting up a space for the swap meet, the group is selling spaces to church members for $10 and non-church members for $25.

The group still is collecting donations to sell at the event, which should be dropped off at the church by Thursday.

EARLY VOTING FOR JUNE PRIMARY ELECTIONS OPENS SATURDAY

Early voting for the primary elections is open from Saturday to June 8 at the Galleria at Sunset mall, 1300 W. Sunset Road.

A station for voting is slated to be set up on the lower level of the mall outside Kohl's Court.

Voting is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 7-8. On Memoral Day, voting is available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

REGISTRATION FOR SUMMER CLASSES and programs SET TO OPEN May 29

Registration for the Henderson parks and recreation department's summer classes, events and programs is scheduled to begin at 5 a.m. May 29.

People can register online at cityofhenderson.com/parks or at a self-serve kiosk at any of the city's recreation centers.

Registration is expected to stay open pending space availability.

Desert Newcomers Club plans welcome coffee

The Desert Newcomers Club Inc., a social and recreational club for women who have lived in the area for three years or less, is planning a welcome coffee at 10 a.m. May 31 at the Green Valley Methodist Church, 2200 E. HENDERSON SLIDES INTO SUMMER WITH EVENT at Anthem Hills Park

To celebrate the end of the school year, the city of Henderson is slated to host Slide In To Summer from 5 to 8 p.m. June 8 at Anthem Hills Park, 2256 N. Reunion Drive.

The event is expected to include a giant slip-and-slide for all ages, a mini slip-and-slide for younger children, a bounce house, lawn games, super human bowling and sun safety tips.

The event is free. The city is asking for a donation of a nonperishable food item to benefit HopeLink.

Humana plans event for veterans Friday

The Humana Guidance Center at 1000 N. Green Valley Parkway, plans to host an open house for veterans and their families from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.
Veterans' service organizations and guest speakers are planned, along with a donation of clothing knitted by Humana Crafters for Charity. Veterans can also learn about job opportunities at Humana and about health care and finanical protection products.
