Niger Ellis is scheduled to speak
at Republican women's luncheon
Niger Ellis, a nationally known radio and TV personality who was a past campaign manager for Herman Cain, is scheduled to be the guest speaker at the Southern Hills Republican Women's luncheon today at Buckman's at the Revere Golf Course, 2600 Hampton Road.

HENDERSON to CELEBRATE ARBOR DAY
The city of Henderson's Parks and Recreation Department is planning an Arbor Day celebration at 10 a.m. Friday at Morrell Park, 500 Harris St. The event is free.
More than 800 Henderson elementary school students are expected to join Mayor Andy Hafen and members of the City Council for the event, which is to include a ceremonial tree planting.

PROJECT to HELP
HENDERSON FAMILY IN NEED
The Henderson Professional Fire Fighters and the Henderson Fire Fighters Benevolent Association are planning to join Rebuilding Together for its second annual project Friday and Saturday .
During the project, volunteers are set to help a Henderson family with plumbing, electrical and building repairs and install a handicap ramp for the family's need.
Those assisting on the project are also expected to clear away trash and dead bushes, along with other landscaping work. For information about volunteering at the event, call 286-3473.
Sunset garden club plans to present 20th annual flower show
The Sunset Garden Club plans to present its 20th annual Standard Flower Show from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway.
The theme will be "Le Cirque de Jardin (Garden Circus)." Numerous floral designs are set to be on display, as are different varieties of horticulture that grow well in the Las Vegas area.
This event is free.
Desert Newcomers Club
plans Spring coffees, fashion show
The Desert Newcomers Club Inc., a social and recreational club for women who have lived in the area for three years or less, is planning a welcome coffee at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Green Valley Methodist Church, 2200 E. Robindale Road, at the northwest corner of Green Valley Parkway and Robindale Road.
The group also is planning to host its Spring Fashion Show May 16 at the Brio Tuscan Grille at Town Square Las Vegas, 6653 Las Vegas Blvd. South. The event is to include a luncheon from
11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. At 1 p.m., Ann Taylor's The Loft plans to show fashions and some jewelry with club members participating as models.
Another coffee has been scheduled for 10 a.m. May 31 at the Green Valley Methodist Church.
In August, the club plans to have open membership for all women who live in the Las Vegas area.

BUSINESS SERIES OFFERS INSIGHT
TO SPANISH-SPEAKING MARKETS
The next Henderson Chamber Roadmap to Success Series workshop is slated for 7:30 a.m. May 17 at the Henderson Business Resource Center, 112 S. Water St. The seminar is slated to discuss the importance of the Spanish-speaking market. The event is free for Henderson Chamber of Commerce members and $25 for nonmembers.

PEDIPED footwear DONATES
TO HENDERSON LIBRARIES FOUNDATION
Pediped footwear has donated $10,000 to the Henderson Libraries Foundation.
The donation is expected to go toward the purchase of library materials. The foundation has set a goal to raise $100,000 in a year.
BIRD PRESERVE SEEKS VOLUNTEERS
The Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, 350 E. Galleria Drive, is offering a volunteer program for outdoor enthusiasts and bird lovers . The purpose of the program is to provide an enhanced visitor experience by having volunteers who can provide field-specific information .
Volunteers are expected to greet visitors, help staff members identify bird species and assist with programs and events.
