Parents can register kids
for summer camps

Registration for two city of Henderson summer camps is under way.

Kids Zone is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 11 through Aug. 24. The program, which is open to children 5 to 12, costs $99 per child per week with sibling discounts available. Participants are expected to be offered activities such as drama, music, swimming, games, field trips, arts and crafts, fitness and health and special events.

Kids Zone is slated to be offered at five locations: Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road; Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway; Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway; Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleri a Drive; and Miller Middle School, 2400 Cozy Hill Circle.

For youths 12 to 15, Teen Kamp is available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 11 through Aug. 10, at Miller Middle School. Teen Kamp costs $110 per youth per week. Each week is expected to feature a theme such as outdoor exploration, sports or graphic arts. Parents can reserve a space for $20 per week per family.

Garden club to discuss how to grow irises during today's meeting

The Sunset Garden Club plans to meet at noon today at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway. The scheduled program is "Growing Iris in Las Vegas," presented by Doriene Waite, president of the Las Vegas Iris Society. This event is open to the public.

BIRD PRESERVE SEEKS VOLUNTEERS

The Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, 350 E. Galleria Drive, is offering a volunteer program for outdoor enthusiasts and bird lovers . The purpose of the program is to provide an enhanced visitor experience by having volunteers who can provide field-specific information . Golf TOURNAMENT
to HONOR FIREFIGHTER

The fourth annual Jeff Mann Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for 7 a.m. April 20 at the Wildhorse Golf Club, 2100 W. Warm Springs Road. The tournament is being organized by the Henderson Professional Fire Fighters and Henderson Fire Fighters Benevolent Association .

Teens can apply
for leadership program

The city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is offering teens an opportunity to gain valuable career and life skills through its Teens-N-Training junior leader program. The program runs throughout the summer.

The purpose of TNT is to train teens to become future recreation leaders and to provide assistance with the Parks and Recreation Department's summer programs, including camps. Applications are available online at cityofhenderson.com (type TNT in the search box) and at all Henderson recreation centers. Participation is open to teens ages 14 or 15 for $110. Space is limited, and applications will be accepted through April 20. Teens chosen for the program will attend a training workshop that covers communication skills, leadership, conflict resolution, and program policies. Parents are also invited to participate in a workshop that provides an overview of the TNT program and outlines expectations for teens.

Niger Ellis is scheduled to speak
at Republican women's luncheon

Niger Ellis, a nationally known radio and TV personality who was a past campaign manager for Herman Cain, is scheduled to be the guest speaker at the Southern Hills Republican Women's luncheon April 24 at Buckman's at the Revere Golf Course, 2600 Hampton Road.

HISTORIC WALKING TOUR to offer
LESSONS OF HENDERSON'S PAST

In conjunction with the Henderson Heritage Parade, the city plans to offer a Water Street Historic Walking Tour April 21. The tour is expected to provide information about the development of Henderson, covering the first homes, schools, businesses and casinos. To begin the free tour, visit the front desk at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water St. After April 21, residents can pick up maps for a self-guided tour from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the convention center.
