WARD 3 GETS 12 APPLICANTS
Twelve people have applied to be appointed to the Ward 3 Henderson City Council seat.
The seat was left vacant after Councilwoman Kathleen Vermillion resigned Jan. 3. The council must appoint a new council member from the generated candidate field. The city is no longer taking applications.
According to the city of Henderson website, the applicants are: Beverly Daly-Dix, Milton E. Doyle, Rick Dreschler, Dr. Sam E. Elia, Sean M. Fellows, Thomas Eugene Haugh, John M. Kehoe, Erin Lale, John F. Marz, Gary J. Riggs, Catherine D. Rosenfield and Jason P. Stoffel.
COMPANY opens HENDERSON OFFICE
Land Interests Inc. opened a Henderson office Jan. 2 at 701 N. Green Valley Parkway, Suite 200, under managing director Rick Simmons.

Church to meet wednesday at SUN CITY
MACDONALD RANCH Community Center
The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Las Vegas is planning to meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Yosemite Room of the Sun City MacDonald Ranch Community Center, 2020 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway. Laurrie Bullock is scheduled to host the next discussion topic, "Childhood Memories and Knowing."

DIVAS' DAY OUT set for Saturday
Divas' Day Out is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
The event is set to feature more than 100 businesses with information on health, fitness, beauty, fashion, motherhood, finance, education and careers .
Singer Donny Osmond is scheduled to appear, as are Val and Maksim Chmerkovskiy from "Dancing With the Stars." The event is free. The first 1,000 women are expected to receive a free feather boa, and the first 500 can receive a party gals romance bag.

GOSPEL SINGER to perform AT CHURCH
Gospel singer and pianist Cynthia Girtley is slated to perform at three church services Sunday at Green Valley Baptist Church, 270 N. Valle Verde Drive. Girtley is slated to perform at the
8:30, 9:45 and 11 a.m. services. Admission is free.

Learn about the HISTORY OF HAWAII
The Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway, is slated to host a Hawaiian heritage celebration from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday . The event is scheduled to include discussions on the history of the Hawaiian monarchy, as well as crafts, games, a hula dancing workshop, movie screenings, music and more. ARCHERY is coming to the South Point
The 2012 National Field Archery Association's World Archery Festival is scheduled for Feb. 10-12 at the South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
The event is expected to feature the latest bows, arrows, accessories, optics, videos, clothing and targets. A shooting competition with a three-spot 20-yard "Vegas Round" also is scheduled.

COMPUTER CLASS to teach THE BASICS
The Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway, is scheduled to offer a computer class from 10 to 11 a.m. Feb. 1. The seminar is expected to teach participants about computer basics. Class size is limited to 12, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Animal adoption event set for Feb. 4
Senior Spaniel Rescue of Las Vegas is planning Find Your Furry Valentine, a pet adoption event, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Bass Pro Shops at the Silverton, 3333 Blue Diamond Road.
Rescue groups will attend with a variety of pets available for adoption and to collect donations. Vendors, sponsorships and volunteers still are needed.
