sunset garden club meeting
The Sunset Garden Club plans to meet at noon today at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway. The topic is scheduled to be "Growing Orchids in Las Vegas," presented by Melanie Long, who writes the Las Vegas Home & Garden column for examiner.com. She also has a business, PlantNannyLV, providing care for orchids and other delicate plants while their owners are away. This event is open to the public.
Rio Secco Golf Club to host
Wendy's 3-tour Challenge
Rio Secco Golf Club, 2851 Grand Hills Drive, plans to host the Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge to benefit The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption at 9 a.m. today. The event, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, is the only professional golf tournament that pits three players from the PGA, LPGA and Champions tours against each other in a head-to-head competition for bragging rights and a share of the $1 million purse.
The Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge event is free and open to the public.
The Champions Tour Team consists of Mark Calcavecchia, Jay Haas and Kenny Perry. The LPGA Tour Team consists of Paula Creamer, Natalie Gulbis and Cristie Kerr. The PGA Tour Team consists of Brandt Snedeker, Boo Weekley and Gary Woodland.

Teen to host fundraiser for ALS
Henderson teen Brendyn Bell plans to host a fundraiser Sunday for ALS of Nevada. Bell's father, Charles L. Bell, died from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 2008. ALS is more commonly known as Lou Gerhrig's disease.
To participate, residents can print out a flier from alsofnevada.org and present it on Sunday at Chevy's at the Galleria at Sunset mall, 1300 W. Sunset Road, from noon to 2:30 p.m. or at Joe's Crab Shack, 4250 E. Sunset Road, from 5 to

PARKS DEPARTMENT PLANS CRAFT FAIR
The city of Henderson's parks and recreation department is planning to host its annual holiday craft fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road. The fair is expected to have handmade crafts from local artists including ceramics, quilts, soaps, holiday decorations, knitwear and home and garden items. The Henderson Professional Fire Fighters received the Red Cross Community Impact Award in October.
The award is given to a community group, neighborhood organization or local company that consistently demonstrates a commitment to making Southern Nevada a safer and more compassionate community.
Dan Pentkowski, president of the organization, and Henderson Fire Chief Steven Goble accepted the award.
MEDICATION DISCOUNT CARDS AVAILABLE
Henderson, along with the National League of Cities, is launching a new program to help residents obtain prescription medications at a lower cost through discount cards.
The card offers, on average, a 23 percent savings off the retail price of prescription medications. All residents can use the card regardless of age, income level or existing health coverage. Residents can obtain a card by printing it from caremark.com/nlc or can get a card at Henderson City Hall, any city recreation center or any Henderson library. Residents can locate the nearest participating pharmacy by visiting caremark.com/nlc or calling 888-620-1749.

Catholic Charities' WIC program moves to new location on Horizon Drive
Catholic Charities' Women, Infant and Children program has moved to a new location at 270 E. Horizon Drive, Suite 109, and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 a.m. Monday through Friday.
The new location is in line with direct bus routes and should serve as a more convenient location for clients in the Henderson area.
The WIC p rogram provides supplemental foods and nutrition services to pregnant women, their infants and children up to age 5 . Postpartum women also can receive services between six and 12 months after their delivery. WIC also provides referrals to other health and public agencies within the community.
