Make a difference this weekend
by planting trees at bird preserve

In honor of Make a Difference Day, the city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is scheduled to host a tree-planting event from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, 350 E. Galleria Drive. The free event is open to people of all ages.

Children are welcome, but those 12 or younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Teens 13 to 17 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Each participant should bring a hat, sunscreen, sturdy shoes, and gloves. Lunch will be provided to volunteers.

Volunteers are needed to plant trees and shrubs to improve the wildlife habitat at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve. The city's expert birders will be on hand to share information on the variety of birds and animals that live at the preserve.

Family Pride bike ride set for monday

Families are invited to join the city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department and The Bike Shop for the inaugural Family Pride Ride at 5 p.m. Monday .

The ride is set to begin at Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway, and run along the paved bike path at Pittman Wash. The ride is set to end at The Bike Shop, 2570 Wigwam Parkway.

Participation is $20 per family, with all ages welcome. Register at any Henderson recreation center or online at cityofhenderson.com (activity code 154111-53). To ensure safety, waivers (available at Silver Springs Recreation Center before the ride) and helmets are required.

Additional activities include coloring, bike decorating and family flag contests for creative riders. Entry forms are available at the finish line.

HENDERSON OFFERS FITNESS WALK

The city of Henderson is inviting families to the Family Fitness Walk from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 29 at Equestrian Park, 1200 Equestrian Drive.

The event is free and open to all ages. Strollers and leashed pets also are welcome. For more information, visit cityofhenderson.com/parks.

HEALTH SERIES FEATURES DENTAL SCREENING

As part of its 60 days to better health series, Henderson Libraries is scheduling a free dental health screening from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway.

The UNLV School of Dental Medicine will host the presentation, which will teach participants about oral health and how to take care of teeth.

The event is free and open to the public. Registration is required.

HEALTHSOUTH REHABILITATION HOSPITAL
of henderson honored

HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Henderson, 10301 Jeffreys St., received the Outstanding Performance in Clinical Excellence Award during HealthSouth's annual meeting and awards banquet on Sept. 30 in Washington, D.C.

HealthSouth Henderson is one of only five hospitals in HealthSouth's nationwide network of 97 hospitals to receive the award. The award recognizes outstanding clinical performance and quality of patient care services.
