I Weight In With All My Gravitas: Yes, Hannah Montana’s New Song “Borrows” From Awesome ‘Eurotrip’ Song, ‘Scotty Doesn’t Know’

So the tweeners have been going crazy online, protecting their delicate little flower of an idol, Miley Cyrus -- she who portrays Hannah Montana on the Disney side of television.
First, the band Lustra said her new song “Rockstar” sounded a lot like “Scotty Doesn’t Know” from the movie, “Eurotrip.” You know why? Because the intro is similar, the guitar leads are nearly identical, and some of Miley’s stanzas are almost dead-on melodic mirror images of “Scotty’s.” You can hear the two songs by clicking here.
By the way, “Eurotrip” is one of the great overlooked comedies of the “00s.” The first time you watch it, you go, “Eh, whatever.” If you watch the unrated version the second time, you’re hooked. There’s a great green guy, a funny hot tub scene, plus the green-booze dance club bit, and an evil child goose-stepping, and the funny-only-in-context-line, “Dude! You made out with your sister!” The reason Eurotrip works is it’s the opposite of “Porky’s” and “American Pie." It’s not about the cool kids. It’s about the total loser slacker dweebs, going on a graduation trip to Europe. Since they’re not the bullies of “Pie” and “Porky’s,” it’s way easier to root for them and feel for their fairly stupid lifestyles. But if you rent it, make sure you get the unrated version. The rated version isn’t as funny.
As for Miley, her TeeVee program is quite the nice little Disney thing. But "borrowing" hooks from other people's creations without commenting on said brouhaha? Not cool, man.
