Interfaith leaders discuss health care issues
Local faith leaders are making a push for health reform, with an assist by the Nevada State Democratic Party. Here are the details on some events Saturday, courtesy the Dems.
Faith for Action Coalition members will host Sabbath Sermons on the moral imperative for health insurance reform this weekend, as Congress prepares to consider a final reform bill in coming weeks.
Faith for Action Coalition members support reform because their diverse religious traditions teach an ethic of caring for those less fortunate. They will discuss the moral obligation to ensure that the 470,000 Nevadans currently without health insurance coverage have access to affordable medical care.
The faith leaders of the coalition also believe the current health insurance system harms families with high prices and discriminates against those with preexisting or chronic conditions. Several members of the inter-faith group of Nevada religious leaders will give sermons to their congregations around the state throughout the weekend.
