Janitor finds baby’s body in high school bathroom, reports say

The body of a newborn baby was found in a restroom at South Houston High School on Wednesday night, Pasadena Independent School District said.

Although her identity has not been disclosed, by using surveillance footage, officials said they were able to determine that the 16-year-old mother of the baby is a student at the school, KHOU reported.

The 16-year-old said that not only was she was unaware of her pregnancy, but she had attended sports practice in the days leading up to the day she gave birth.

The girl's parents said they did not know her daughter was pregnant either, but said they believe the baby's father is a 23-year-old man that her daughter had been seeing against her parents' will since July.

According to the mother, the 16-year-old ran away with the man in August but later returned home.

Although the girl's parents filed a police report, nothing came of it, KHOU reported. Houston police said that it is "an open sexual assault investigation."

An autopsy will be performed to determine the baby's cause of death. Until then, police are unsure if the girl will face any charges.
