KB to unveil new ZeroHouse
KB Home will show off its new ZeroHouse 2.0 model home today at a grand opening event in Talavera in Mountain's Edge noon-5 p.m.
During the celebration, guests can enjoy free food and refreshments, take a tour of the homes and receive a gift card when they bring in a copy of their current energy utility bills.
The opening of the ZeroHouse model home continues a nationwide rollout of the net-zero energy home designs, available at KB Home communities in California, Colorado, Texas and Florida.
Homebuyers can reduce and may be even eliminate their monthly electricity charges if they incorporate the ZeroHouse energy-efficiency options into their homes. These energy-saving features can be found at the KB Home Studio.
The higher efficiency of the ZeroHouse is the result of a whole-home approach, according to company officials.
It starts from the inside out, beginning with increased insulation, upgraded heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems and dual-pane, low-emissivity windows and ending with solar panels on the roof.
The new model ZeroHouse 2.0 home also showcases new technology including an energy-monitoring system and automated home controls.
The home automation system, available as an option in homes at Talavera, allows the homeowner to manage numerous devices in the home from one central control panel, a smartphone or from anywhere remotely via the Internet.
Remote access means they can arm or disarm a security system, adjust their thermostat or turn lights on and off from anywhere at any time.
All Talavera homes are designed to help homeowners save money on monthly expenses by earning the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star, as well as NV Energy's Energy Plus certification.
Energy-efficient features such as programmable thermostats, radiant-roof barrier and Energy Star appliances all help keep household utility bills low, according to company officials.
Home shoppers at Talavera have their choice of nine floor plans ranging from 1,520 to 2,568 square feet with as many as five bedrooms, as many as three baths and two-car garages.
The one- and two-story homes are designed to be open and airy with great room living areas opening up to outdoor living areas with optional covered patios.
Flexible den or loft spaces can be used in a variety of ways or converted to an additional bedroom.
The Talavera sales center is located at 7079 Glencoe Harbor Ave. in Mountain's Edge in the southwest valley.
From the Las Vegas Beltway south, exit Buffalo Drive heading south. Continue about five miles and turn left on Cactus Drive, then right on Shades Park Street to the sales office on the right.
From Interstate 15, exit Blue Diamond Road and head west about five miles. Turn left on Buffalo, left on Cactus, and right on Shades Park Street to the sales office on the right.
