Kihuen raises more than $100,000 for House bid
State Sen. Ruben Kihuen of Las Vegas has raised $101,695 for his congressional campaign, according to his first federal election report.
The six-figure haul since Kihuen announced his House bid in early September came from 260 donors, his campaign said Friday.
He has $94,994 cash on hand, according to the Federal Election Commission report for the fundraising period ending Sept. 30.
That puts him in good shape to compete in a race that is likely to involve a Democratic primary since at least five strong Democrats are vying for three Southern Nevada House seats.
Kihuen, who is seeking to become Nevada's first Hispanic congressman, said he was grateful for the early support for his 2012 campaign. Some 80 percent of the contributions came from individual donors with an average of $310, his campaign said. And 110 people donated under $100.
"I am truly humbled by the support and encouragement that I have received this past month and I am confident that this campaign wil have the resources necessary to win," Kihuen said. "I am especially thankful to all the first-time donors and small-dollar donors who have made personal sacrifices to contribute to my campaign. Their support provides me the motivation to continue working hard."
