Lauer drops campaign for Congress

Republican Rob Lauer, a political outsider who emerged as a credible primary candidate in the race to challenge Rep. Dina Titus, D-Nev., will drop out to help unify the party behind former state Sen. Joe Heck.

On Friday Lauer said he chose to drop out despite raising $125,000 to Heck's $190,800. Titus has raised $1,070,126, with $311,902 coming in the fourth quarter and has $729,344 cash on hand.

By engaging in a competitive primary with Heck, Lauer says "We'd both end up broke and Dina Titus has $1 million in the bank."

Lauer says he will challenge for Nevada Secretary of State, a position now held by Democrat Ross Miller. Heck said Lauer's challenge to Miller is "commendable".
