Left-leaning media still hoping against midterm change

Here's a national outlook rundown from the NYT as we head into the last week of elections. Its spin is pretty much a fingers-crossed view of how the Democrats might not get waxed as badly as it looks now.

You can almost hear the refrain between the lines: "I hope we don't lose ... I hope we don't lose ... I hope we don't lose."

Here's the truth: The Democrats have lost the House and thus have lost any chance of enacting the rest of the Obama agenda. The Senate will probably stay Democrat by a few votes, but will probably need a new majority leader as Sharron Angle appears to be finishing strongly, while Reid can't seem to find another gear. If the Tea Party has legs — and I think it does — the Senate will go Republican in 2012 and maybe — just maybe — the nightmare of President Barack Obama's awful presidency will come to an end.
